Q: How Much?
A: That’s usually the number one question. Starting prices are displayed on most products to give you an Idea of how much it’s going to cost. Keep in mind these are all custom products, and prices can vary.
Q: When can I have it?
A: By far the most pressing question in the marine industry, yet not always the easiest to answer. In most cases, an average project will take between two and three weeks, based on an average workload.
Q: Do you install?
A: Yes, in most cases we do.
Q: How do I take care of my Top?
A: There are a host of products available on the market today, the most important thing to keep in mind is that anodized aluminum is a surface treated metal and that anything abrasive can permanently damage the finish. Also, some chemicals might permanently stain the surface. We recommend a light coat of a nonabrasive automotive paste wax twice a season and leave a coat on when you cover your boat for the winter. Salt accumulation will allow premature pitting to occur. So freshwater rinse and dry with a chamois after each use. Also make sure that all metalwork is electrically bonded for safety reasons and to prevent electrolysis.
Q: What is anodizing?
A: It’s a protective and decorative oxide coating acquired by making the aluminum the anode of an electrolytic cell (whew!) In laymen’s terms it’s artificial oxidation.
Q: How long will my top last?
A: I’ve been in the Tower business for over twenty years. And I’ve seen tops that are fifteen years old look like they were just built. On the flipside of that, I’ve seen neglected tops that are a year old look like they were fifteen years old. Just like anything else, the better you take care of it the longer it will last.
Q: How much does it weigh?
A: Depending on the product, most of our superstructures range anywhere from 75-175 lbs. it’s like adding another person on your boat.
Q: Will a Hardtop increase the value of my boat?
A: Yes, unlike a folding Bimini, which is a consumable product that will have to be replaced. A Hardtop is a permanent addition designed to last the life of boat. Take a look at your local boat classified adds and compare the boats with tops vs. the ones without.
Q: Do you need the boat?
A: We do a majority of the fabrication prior to installation to assure you minimal down time. But access to the boat is usually required for the proper fit.
Q: What’s your warranty?
A: Without going into a long fancy warranty that you need a magnifying glass to read (which we have if you want) we guarantee our products free from defects in workmanship for as long as you own your boat or vehicle. The basic conditions are: its has to be brought back to our location or one agreed to by us; and we are not responsible for anything not done by us, such as wiring, canvas, paint, etc. Pretty simple, if you can break it, we’ll fix it for free.
